WeRadiate LLC Introduces Dual Temperature Sensor™ for Composting Operations

WeRadiate LLC is proud to unveil its latest innovation–the WeRadiate Dual Temperature Sensor™, a unique digitally-controlled remote monitoring system to track compost health. Over the last three years, WeRadiate has led a team of researchers, technologists, and environmentalists to create this pioneering technology, which can remotely monitor and de-risk compost processing facilities of all sizes from spontaneous internal combustion through automatic alerts or pathogen reduction of e.coli or salmonella through digital temperature monitoring.

The composting process until now has largely been intuitive and labor-intensive. WeRadiate's Dual Temperature Sensor™ harnesses technology and data analytics remotely, assisting operators to make real-time informed decisions throughout the lifecycle and attain efficiency. Crafted as a 3-foot rod with a handle, the sensor collects temperature points at the midpoint and the end tip of the rod, with an accuracy of ±0.9°F (±0.5°C) and provides a temperature range of -67°F to +257°F (-55 to 125°C). Users can identify temperature distribution patterns and improve management through proactive feedback loops. This solution empowers composting operations, improves profitability, and ensures regulatory compliance, a growing need to use or sell the compost for soil amendment.

Alexander Shaw, the compost operator of Red Hook Farms in Brooklyn, NY, has used WeRadiate’s data to improve the quality of compost: "WeRadiate sensors are present in our compost piles from the very start of the processing stages. These sensors are installed on day one, and if the compost pile is screened and distributed five months later, we have five months of easily accessible data for learning, sharing with our team, and ensuring compliance. I highly recommend WeRadiate sensors for composting operations, especially extremely large-scale operations with limited capacity for pile monitoring and seeking deeper insights into their processes."

The Dual Temperature Sensor™ is assembled locally in New York State through strategic partnerships with Tresca Design and MCCI Ithaca. The technology encapsulates moisture-resistant enclosures which ensures accuracy even in the most challenging weather conditions. The innovation lies in its secure, user-friendly dashboard, accessible on all devices, which provides invaluable insights into composting operations. The dashboard adapts to each compost site and client request on data collection frequency, real-time alerts for temperature monitoring, and data reporting for state or local entities, saving time and effort for operators.

The Dual Temperature Sensor's impact extends beyond operational efficiencies. With a 99% pathogen removal assurance through data tracking and maintenance of stringent standards, the sensor safeguards not only operational success but also the well-being of communities with 99% pathogen removal assurance of E.coli and Salmonella, providing Process For Reducing Pathogen (PFRP) standards for compost quality.

WeRadiate’s services have also been integral to renewing urban efforts to improve soil health. David Loewenguth, compost manager of Hudson River Park Compost Yard in New York City, says, “Sashti brings an expert perspective to composting and soil health, which we value a lot apart from the technology that’s easy to use and effective. We initially began with a one-year contract and extended it to two more years this year.”

WeRadiate is committed to sustainability on all fronts. Its subscription-based model reduces waste by leasing the hardware while customizing the data and analytics for each client. This environmentally conscious approach underscores the company's dedication to responsible resource utilization through reuse, repair, and recycling. As WeRadiate continues to lead in composting technology, it also guides those new to the field by providing training and educational workshops in organics waste management, composting, and the importance of soil health. The Dual Temperature Sensor–a testament to research, community collaboration, and sustainability–is poised to revolutionize composting operations internationally.

About WeRadiate:

WeRadiate is an Ag-tech company committed to improving soil health through an integrated solution of innovative technology and expert advisory services. WeRadiate aims to prevent organic materials from ending up in landfills and instead utilize them to nourish our soils through compost. Headquartered in Rochester, NY, with an office in Washington D.C., the company serves clients in six U.S. states. Focusing on soil health, data, and community engagement, WeRadiate leads the way toward a more sustainable planet. In 2009, Sashti, founder of WeRadiate, embarked on a year-long fellowship in India, igniting his passion for ecological change in soil health. Inspired by a community-run farm and ashram rejuvenating soils with on-site materials, Sashti's familial roots in farming, and his commitment to the environment paved the path for his journey. Returning to the U.S., Sashti's exploration of soil health, science, and technology laid the foundation for WeRadiate.

Sashti is a global pioneer in creating awareness about the need for data-driven solutions in composting and soil health. He is a founding member of a community garden in Brooklyn, New York City, has developed hands-on environmental lessons, and co-created the annual NYC Compost Bike Tours. In 2019, under Sashti’s leadership, WeRadiate developed the first compost pile sensor to elevate the output of nutrient-rich compost and enhance the operational efficiency of NYC community composting sites. Sashti’s vision is to expand the global presence of WeRadiate and lead a new chapter in soil health amidst the increased threat of climate disasters and food security. The health of our soil is crucial to our future well-being, and WeRadiate is leading the way in restoring this vital connection.

WeRadiate is a Halcyon Fall Opportunity Intensive fellow 2023. The company secured a prize of $250k awarded from the Grow-NY Food and Ag-Competition in 2021. WeRadiate is involved with incubator programs LaunchNY, Scale for Climate Tech, FuzeHub Award, and NYSERDA.
